According to sources, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has decided to transfer the authority for cricket-related decisions to former captain Waqar Younis. Naqvi will retain oversight of administrative matters, while Waqar will handle decisions concerning international and domestic selection committees, players’ No Objection Certificates (NOCs), and other key cricket issues.
The PCB Constitution 2014 allows the chairman to delegate his powers, facilitating this shift to Waqar Younis. Naqvi is currently concentrating on administrative preparations for the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan will host.
Sources indicate that Waqar Younis will manage all aspects of the national team, including overseeing the national selection committee and the white and red ball coaches. Waqar has previously held roles as the head coach and bowling coach of the Pakistan cricket team after his retirement in 2003.
Additionally, Mohsin Naqvi is set to become the new president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for a two-year term starting in January 2025. This decision was made during the ACC meeting in Bali in January 2024, granting Pakistan the chairmanship of the ACC.
Currently, Mohsin Naqvi holds two significant positions in Pakistan, serving as both the PCB chairman and the Interior Minister.
