Youm-e-Istehsal Being Observed Across Pakistan

Today, Pakistan is observing Youm-e-Istehsal to protest against the Indian government’s actions on August 5, 2019. On this date, the Bharatiya Janata Party, led by Narendra Modi, revoked Articles 370 and 35A of the Indian constitution, effectively removing the special status of Kashmir. This move was widely condemned by Pakistan, Kashmiris, and the international community.

A special walk is currently taking place from the Foreign Office to D-Chowk in Islamabad to show solidarity with the people of Kashmir. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar is leading the walk, with participation from federal ministers, lawmakers, political leaders, civil society members, academics, students, and media personnel.

At nine in the morning, a one-minute silence was observed, during which all traffic halted. The national anthems of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir were played. Radio Pakistan, PTV, and other media outlets are airing special programs to highlight the leaders of Kashmir’s freedom movement, the sacrifices made by Kashmiris, and the atrocities committed by Indian forces in the region.
