27 Prominent Ulemas Face Sermon Ban During Muharram

ISLAMABAD:

In anticipation of Muharram, Islamabad’s district administration has banned 27 religious scholars from different sects from delivering sermons and speeches during the holy month. This decision follows recommendations from the Islamabad police.

Maulana Abdul Aziz, Maulana Abdul Razaq, Qari Waseem Abbasi, and Rizwan Saifi are among the notable scholars banned. Others include Allama Shafa Najafi, Allama Tahir Ashraf, Maulana Muhammad Ilyas, and Abdul Khaliq.

The administration’s move is intended to ensure peace and security during Muharram, a time marked by significant religious activities and gatherings.

Additionally, the Rawalpindi district administration has implemented a ban under Section 144 on storing building materials and parking vehicles, motorcycles, and push carts along the routes of Muharram mourning processions in the twin city.

The interior ministry has also approved the deployment of the military to assist with maintaining law and order during Muharram, as requested by all provincial governments, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
